Story Bridge hotel

THE Story Bridge Hotel has for a long time been a popular haunt of locals and visitors alike.
Built in 1886 as the Kangaroo Point Hotel, the hotel is one of only seven, three-story hotels in Queensland from that period.
It was renamed the Story Bridge Hotel in 1947 to coincide with the opening of the bridge.
The hotel sits in close proximity to the bridge. In 2003, a $3.2 million facelift saw a restaurant and bar built into the base of the bridge and a beer garden created under the bridge.
In the times of the old public bar with its verandah loverlooking the street, one of the memorable things to do on a visit to Brisbane - if you could pick your moment - was to sit on the verandah with a beer and enjoy the experience of a tropical downpour.
The character of the bridge arguably has changed through the modernisation program carried out, but the bridge is worth a visit because of its unique position and historic interest.
